Source Matrix
Lineage AUD(SHNID 101489) + DSBD(SHNID 101687)

Notes

Matrix mix: sbd:aud(-13db), Audience source via phopeley
Lineage: Mixing Cool Edit Pro > CDWAV > TLH > flac level 8.

Notes:

- aud wav was ~ 99.9954% the "speed" of the sbd (reasonable error for digital clocks) but can cause an accumulating run out error
- aud wav was speed corrected accordingly
- the aud was mixed down ~ 13dB
- ~ 30 seconds missing from sbd before TMNSP
- ~ 178 seconds missing from sbd at end of TMNSP
- lost sailor on sbd had two small "pops" that were attentuated
- sbd had ~10 sec "extra" bit after FOTM which was altered to lineup with aud tape
- sbd issues were addressed using the aud tape where it impacted the listening experience; because of their differences this does not always achieve a perfect correction

i have every dead show from 1969 to 1995, i;ve herd and saw the dead on good nights and bad nights. the grateful dead on their worst night was and always will be better then furthur, or any other dead cover band.
and thats not an opinion, thats a fact.
i dont hate furthur, i think it's great for fans who never got to see garcia live.
but to say furthur sounds anything like the dead is like saying phil singing wave to the wind is the best experience ever.

Subject: great!
you're right, a lot of furthur will never be as good as great 80's dead, but when 80's dead sucked, it sucked. you obviously havent ran your hands through '86 tapes if you don't believe me.

First of all you wouldn't catch yourself sleeping at a show. Get off your ass and go see them live.
Bobby sounds Great! the music and vocals sound like 1980-1985 Grateful dead. I am a lost sailor saint Fan and theese guys do it right. I do object to phil singing some of the jerry tunes. It dosent bother me enough not to see them i saw 4 shows this winter including both radio city shows which kicked fuckin ass. 2nd night had a lil more energy and i liked the setlist more but both shows were legendary, along with the light show. Radio citys light show was unreal check it out on google 2-24-10

Subject: This is start anew!!!
As Jerry would habitually tell us in 83 /84 with the many , many Baby Blue encores Go start Anew.I hope that this new inclination ,Furthur fills the void for Bob and Phil as the band does sound great. However it is not the Grateful Dead and the replacement is not Jerry. These guys want to play maybe ,I will go to Barton Hall.

Subject: Thank You
To Further,

Wonderful, Superb, I am one of those old guys who never write anything because I feel most opinions are just fools rambling. Well listing to the new band I am so proud to be associated with two men who continue to reach for the stars. They continue to carry on the atmosphere they and we all began many years ago.
I grew up with this way of life and it helped form my life and attitude from the music and mutual respect.
This recording help proves what a long strange trip it has been. Since the passing of Jerry, we have been treated to many wonderful forms of the original GD. They appeared to have been practice for this band. It is so great they have past on the torch to younger great talent and the old guys are good themselves.
Thanks for being back.

Subject: Great Show
Love Haight, if you hate the Dead, go somewhere else. This space is for reviews of shows, so aid your brothers and sisters in finding great music. You are a bummer now, and you were probably a bummer then.

As for this show, I thought the Second Set from Althea on was really terrific. Incredible feeling in the hall, everybody knew the magic was back, and I thought the playing was outstanding. Nice recording as well.

To have this guy aping a thoughtful reviewer is too much..it's time for the Internet Archive to hang it up if they have to resort to publishing this...this reviewer doesn't have a original bone in his body...and his writing is just fucking annoying...I think ANYONE but pretend reviewer is more suited, THIS IS JUST WRONG

I think these shows are excellent! Wish I was there! To comment on the negativity from Drpinky....don't you think Jerry is sitting up there with a shit eating grin watching the boys play on and keep his legacy alive? Just because the man in gone doens't mean the music has to be! Didn't you parents ever teach you to "say something nice or don't say anything at all?"
Keep it going boys.....see you on the right coast!

I attended all three nights. This review applies to all of them.

Of course Jerry is gone and I miss him as much as anyone.

But the previous reviewer's negativity is not appropriate. Essentially he/she is arguing that Phil and Bobby can't play GD songs anymore, because *no one* is Jerry.

That is BS. P&F, for example, has done great work. The fact that Jerry is gone is a fact, but doesn't prevent the songs from living on.

As far as FURTHUR, these were great shows. Bobby was in a great voice, his guitar playing was precise and economical, and Phil was truly amazing. I think Phil has done great work with his band over the years, but my sense of these shows was that Phil was liberated by not having to play the role of band leader.

The rest of the band was superb, too. Chimenti is a really super keyboard player who sounded better and better each of the three nights, the drummers were tasteful and played the songs at the proper tempos, and what you called JK's "aping" of JG meant that the songs tended to hang together well because the guitar parts did what they were supposed to do, so Bobby and Phil weren't constantly getting distracted by someone who doesn't know the songs. Actually I liked JK a lot and think he sounds great on these tapes.
